Listening to You…

One of the most important factors that motivates any one of us to buy or to consider buying an Elliptical Trainer machine is the idea of staying in good physical condition. And since I assume that no one is forcing you to stay in good physical shape, I must believe that you were listening to your inner voice that says “I value my body and I want to do something for it”. Welcome to the team, join us!

Your Health Will Thank You …

Having an elliptical trainer will allow you to benefit from both upper- and lower-Body cardiovascular workout. This simply means you will increase your heart and lung capacity while improving your health (and burning calories at the same time).

The Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer provides you with the ability to specifically target the upper body region in case you suffer from injuries in your leg, ankle or knees. Of course, your elliptical trainer can be used as an excellent exercising tool to do lower body cardio workouts, as well.

Technological Innovations

Your elliptical trainer features a heavy 25-pound flywheel that allows you to reach smooth performance and a more consistent workout. The main reason for this stems from the weight of the flywheel. A 25-pound flywheel will allow your elliptical machine to store a substantial amount of mechanical energy that you can use to restart your workout without committing too much effort on your part even after the pedaling action has stopped. This motion is embedded into a whisper quiet drive system that produces little or any noise which makes it quite convenient for workout sessions at your preferred time schedule.

Power Incline Control

This option allows you to change incline level instantly with the simple touch of a button, even while running/walking. Through this feature, the Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer offers additional resistance as well as variable positions for diversity in your workout .The ramp angle is fully adjustable from 0 to 30 degrees, allowing you to individually target and work all major lower body muscle groups. At the same time, it also gives you an increased cardio burn which resembles pretty much hiking up a hill.

A major benefit of the power incline control is that it can help strengthen your calves. And perhaps its main benefit lies in the fact that it can help you burn fat three times faster and 3x more calories. Even though you can incline your elliptical machine up to 30 degrees, an inclination of 10 degrees is probably good enough for most of users to achieve these results, regardless if they are walking or running. As one can probably intuit, higher levels of resistance are for more advanced users.

Console and Display

The E35 Elliptical Machine comes with a luminous 6.5-inch blue LCD display that makes it easy to track your workoutE35 Console progress. The console includes windows that track resistance, time, distance, calories burned, resistance levels and pulse. New for 2011 is a ¼ mile track feature and a peak and valley graph that you can use to visualize your progress. You can also tilt the console for optimum screening based on user’s height.

Through the console’s commands, you can adjust/change the 16 levels of resistance that are included in the E35 Elliptical Trainer. Furthermore, since the moveable handlebars have incline and resistance controls you can make your adjustments quite handy without breaking your stride.

The console also has built in speakers which allow you to hook up any MP3 player (iPod, etc.) for easy listening while also offering built-in cooling fans, and a water bottle holder. Great features for the person who needs/wants to prepare everything before (s)he engages into his elliptical trainer workout.

The Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer comes with 6 standard programs and has the ability to let the user define two additional programs that provide for greater flexibility and personal training customization.

The bigger, the better

From previous reviews, we have learned that the stride length of an elliptical trainer partially determines the comfort level of the workout. As you probably know, most elliptical review sites recommend at least an 18-inch stride length. The Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer has a stride length of 20 inches making it smooth and comfortable. But, is it comfortable for everyone? Not exactly. In general, if you are shorter than 5 feet 3 inches, you will be comfortable with a 16 to 18 inch stride length. If you are between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches, you should choose an 18 to 21 inch stride length.

Adjustable pedals

In addition to a longer stride, the Sole E35 includes articulating food pedals. The foot beds are adjustable forE35 Adjustable Pedals customized comfort. One can manually customize/change the angle of the pedals. So if the elliptical user has higher feet arches or flat feet, (s)he can make the appropriate adjustment to the angle’s pedals to lessen stress and lack of feeling.

More on Pedals

As we talk further about the pedaling system, we would like to mention Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer’s Eddy Current Brake (ECB) resistance system which provides the user with a reliable and durable braking system that requires little maintenance and, more importantly, will let operate your elliptical machine smoothly and quietly.

The Sole E35 has a bi-directional pedaling system, with forward and reverse motion that will help you reduce fatigue caused by walking the traditional one-directional elliptical in the same posture and movement (it will allow you to train different leg muscle groups evenly, too).

Sole E35 Elliptical: A Front Drive Machine

In the past, there had been considerably controversy over which elliptical trainer is the best: the rear or front drive system. There was a time when there appear to be a consensus indicating that the rear drive was superior but this belief was supported simply by the fact that this system was usually found on the more expensive elliptical trainers like Precor and Life Fitness. But, as we all know now, lately some premium manufacturers have introduced front drive elliptical trainer systems.

So at the end, which one is better? The answer is subjective. It all boils down to the feel of the machine and what one finds most comfortable. An advantage of rear drive elliptical machines is that they have less moving parts. Consequently, you have fewer parts that may require service. On the other hand, most front drive elliptical trainers have foot pedals that run on rails in the rear and the Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer comes with dual wheel rollers which provide a more solid and stable feel.

In conclusion: find a machine that feels best for you. Try both systems, test the different drives, and purchase the best value within your budget.

Heart Rate Programs

The Sole E35’s HR Program consists, at least, of 3 basic components:chest strap 300x229

  • Handgrip: Stationary handle bars have built-in pulse sensors for monitoring your heart rate
  • Chest Strap: A heart rate chest strap is also included for hands free pulse monitoring
  • Telemetry Belt: For some, this element has been fantastic. With the belt on, the users can keep their hands on the arm bars and view a read-out of their pulse without interrupting the workout

Who is this Elliptical Machine designed for?

The Sole E35 has a maximum weight capacity of 375 pounds making it one of the most resistant elliptical machines out in the market.

Of the “consumer grade” elliptical trainers sold online and in some of the big box stores the E35 is one of the best. I’ve done a lot of research and the Sole has a smooth solid feel that many of the others (especially less expensive ellipticals) can’t match.

The most important thing to remember is the best machine is the one you’ll USE. If you have a jerky, clunky, noisy, or otherwise unpleasant elliptical you’re less likely to use it regularly.

What you want in an elliptical is a solid frame that doesn’t flex much when you really pound on it at higher resistance levels and work hard with your arms. If you try that on a cheaper machine, it will rock, flex, creak, squeek, clunk, etc. The E35 passes this test.

I recently purchased the Sole E35 2011 model after spending a few weeks online researching between the Sole, Norditrack, Horizon, and other top models. I then went and tried a few machines out at some local shops, and my choice landed on the E35. Reasons I chose the E35 over the E25 or E95, was mainly the heavier wheel and the longer unit was the perfect sweet spot. I also was buying this unit for my wife as well.

Install, as many others has stated the box unit is extremely heavy and large, very difficult to carry. We were keeping it on a ground level entrance so just two people was enough. It took 2 people about 2 hours to put the machine together. The directions are very good and its virtually impossible to put any part of it together wrong.

After first use, the machine is whisper quiet, and very smooth. I did a 30 minute workout on lowest incline and it was just exactly as you would expect from the machines at the gym. I’m a bigger guy (6’1 270) and it did not shake at all. I tested the MP3/speakers feature and it worked perfectly. The wireless heartrate chest monitor works flawlessly as well and was rather nice since my gym only has the handles.

Did the usual consumer report/amazon.com/treadmillDR. research and this brand came up with high marks for the cost. Then went to Dick’s sporting goods where they have them in stock to check out. Actually ordered one direct from Sole as this was the best price (no tax, free shipping)…I splurged for the “turnkey service”. It is an extra 235.00 and meant they would haul it to the second floor of my home and set it up and haul away all debris. WELL WORTH IT. Strikingly at Sole when I placed the order they discouraged this service and said for 100.00 they will deliver it to the room of your choice and “its really easy to put together” I don’t think so…..The two professional movers who put together about one of these machines a week said it is challenging and it took them working together 2 solid hours. Soooo, think about that when ordering.

Bottom line: ok for the short and fat….worth paying extra to have professionals haul and assemble it.

What Others Are Saying

The Sole E35 has received satisfactory reviews from most consumers’ reviews (44 out of 47: 30 reviews, rated it 5 stars and 14 reviews rated it 4 stars).

Average Customer Review is 4.6 out of 5 stars.

Here are some the comments to date:

  • “Nice Elliptical Trainer”
  • “Extremely Good Product”
  • “The included heart rate chest strap is pretty accurate from what I can tell and allows the machine to know your heart rate without having to grab the handlebars”
  • “Excellent Product for the Money”
  • “Adjustable pedal angles help you to customize the feel of your stride so your feet don’t fall asleep”
  • “A Quality Machine for Home Exercise”

Actual Users’ Additional Tips. New!

  • Really torque metal-to-metal connections, back off a little on metal-to-nylon washers, and snug but don’t over-tighten any assembly involving plastic
  • As another review noted, DON’T over-tighten the bolts connecting the arms to the console mast. The reason for this is that while the bolt is long, only a small portion of the threads actually are involved in the attachment. That means that all your tightening is directed over a small number of threads, and you may end up snapping the bolt, so don’t go nuts on these
  • The hardest parts of the assembly for me were putting on the plastic covers in the last step, no kidding!
  • As soon as you can start testing things, do it, before the whole thing is put together. Do a final test before plugging it in. Don’t worry about it being so hard to move without power; as soon as you power up, the unit loosens. I believe it is set tight to making it more stable during shipping

Any complaints? Downside?

The downside is that the Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer takes up considerable space but some people will sacrifice space for stability. It’s huge and it’s really heavy. Check out the dimensions before getting it to make sure it will fit in your room.
